The Salutation Inn Turns 10



At the weekend the Salutation, Topsham’s stylish independent restaurant with rooms, celebrated turning ten. The owners, the Williams-Hawkes family, gathered with regulars and suppliers to mark ten years of trading in its current form for a joyful afternoon in the stunning Glasshouse.

The family took on the Salutation, which boasts Topsham’s oldest room (the Assembly Rooms, built in 1729), on New Years Eve 2010 with a two year renovation project ahead before opening on the 26th of November 2012. Ten years, a pandemic, and a lot of food and drink served later, the stylish restaurant with rooms stands proud in the centre of Topsham – with a beautiful wet-fish shop “SALT” added to its name.

Celebrated within the Michelin guide annually since the first year’s trading, Food and Travel’s Best Breakfast in the UK 2016, Taste of the West Gold award 2022 along with numerous other local awards for dining and accommodation, the Salutation’s reputation as a truly excellent restaurant oozing luxury and style is as strong as ever.

Co-owner Tom Williams-Hawkes commented: “We would like to thank all our suppliers and regulars, and everyone that has been involved the last few years. And of course our past and present staff and the team that have made the business what it is over the years.”

Guests enjoyed fabulous drinks including Salcombe Gin and Tonic and Prosecco from the generous sponsors, alongside exquisite canapés freshly prepared by the Salutation’s passionate team of chefs, including a wild mushroom arancini and artichoke velouté. Entertainment was by accomplished local singer Drew Mason who impressed guests with his warm vocals and popular jazz standards.
